About us

John was born in Barbados, West Indies and moved to Ontario, Canada in 1978. He studied Business Administration at Algonquin College before attending Youth With A Missions' Discipleship Training School (DTS) in Cambridge, Ontario in 1989. There he discovered two loves: Shelly and the performing arts.

Shelly grew up in the beautiful town of Fenwick, Ontario. After high school and working as an administrative assistant she attended YWAM's Discipleship Training School in Cambridge, Ontario in 1989. The school outreach was to Guyana, South America where after the DTS Shelly served as YWAM staff till returning to Canada and marrying John in December 1990.

After working in Ottawa, Ontario for a year John and Shelly were invited back to YWAM Cambridge in 1992 where they served as staff in two Discipleship Training Schools, leading outreaches to Panama and Honduras.  In April 1993 John was a student in YWAM Cambridge's Arts in Ministry school and toured the Southern USA as part of the YWAM International Mime Theatre team.  John then joined the Mime Theatre department and apprenticed under Danny Scott, a professional mime artist from Britain.

In 1994 he co-founded Out Of Silence Mime Theatre with Ang (Perry) Moore.  Out Of Silence, "a unique blend of heart and soul", combined the disciplines of dance, theatre, and mime.  His audience included prisons, schools, theatres, churches, conventions, weddings, and funerals.  John has taught and performed in Canada, the USA, New Zealand, Australia, Barbados, Trinidad, Guyana, Macedonia, Fiji, Ghana, and South Africa.

During this time the Wason family increased when Timothy was born in 1993, Daniel in 1995, and Jeffrey in 1997.  In March 2003, the Wason family moved to Tauranga, New Zealand to work with YWAM's Tonic Theatre.  While in New Zealand John launched his current YWAM ministry: Word To Life Theatre Arts.

May 2006 saw the Wasons establishing a new home in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, where John's parents are retired.  They continue their ministry of serving with YWAM in Word To Life Theatre Arts.

Timothy was born in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada and in Dec turns 18 years old. Timothy has graduated from highschool and is volunteering with a charitable organization called Extreme Outreach. In 2012 he plans on attending Camosun College to do a Welding course.  He has a growing interest in science and outdoor survival. He aspires to doing mission work in the South American jungle.

Daniel was born in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada and in June turned 16 years old. Currently he is attending Camosun College as a highschool student, completing the Welding course which is a 7 month fulltime program.  In his spare time he is building a 50 lb coat of chainmail,  and is studying new chess moves so he can beat Tim.

Jeffrey was born in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada and turns 14 years old in Nov. He is currently the only Wason boy being home educated. He volunteers as a junior leader with Extreme Outreach's Superkids program.  He enjoys archery, target practice with his air soft gun, gliding around on his ripstick, and planning what he’ll buy next with his paper route money.
